Swift Canoes Keewaydin 17

The Swift Canoes Keewaydin 17 is the longer, faster version of the smaller Keewaydin 16; the differences end there. This canoe, the Keewaydin 17, is equally a brilliant touring canoe, ideal for use on days out with two paddlers or for more adventurous expeditions and multiple days out at a time. With a longer water line, sleek design, the Keewaydin 17 is perfect for cruising on calm waters. The hull is designed by renowned canoe designer David Yost, for forward acceleration and an efficient glide. However, soft rounded chines are forgiving and encourage small waves to roll under the hull.

The asymmetrical shape of the Keewaydin allows for a moderate rocker at the bow, increasing manoeuvrability, while the stern is almost straight with minimal rocker, helping to improve the straight-line tracking and ensures that the rear of the boat follows the more agile bow. Also featuring a narrower bow but maintaining its overall volume with a fuller stern, this tripping boat is easy to ballast if laden up.

Internally, as with all the Swift Canoes, the attention to detail is incredible. Finished with three contoured cherry wood seats at bow and stern, these allow for a comfortable paddling position from either a kneeling or seated posture. A sculpted cherry carrying yoke makes for comfortable portaging if solo. At either end, cherry handles allow for tandem moves and finish the interior off nicely with the hearty cherry colour.

The construction is also of an equally high-quality finish, made from super light-weight Kevlar Fusion the Keewaydin 17 weighs in at 18.4kgs, (other custom laminates may affect this weight, speak to one of our specialist stores with any questions in this area). Due to the strength to weight ratio of Kevlar Fusion, it has been one of Swifts most popular laminates. The Kevlar Fusion is constructed of an exterior layer of polyester and laminates of S-Glass and Kevlar cloths surrounding a durable foam cored ribbing system. These are finished with urethane resin system and a high-quality gel-coat which gives a vibrant exterior while also offering great resistance to abrasion and impacts. The gunwales are bonded to the hull via Swifts unique and propriety infusion process, making the Keewaydin 17 maintenance free, lighter and stronger than other canoes.
