The hull of both the Essence 16 and the 17 incorporates a strong V-shaped bow and stern with well defined chines to provide true directional stability and splendid edge control. Predictable handling, manoeuvrability and impressive forward speed give paddlers all the performance needed for everyday paddling or when heading off for a multi-day expedition. The hull provides great primary and secondary stability so you can expect a confidence inspiring performance and will be able you to take your sea touring experiences to new levels, whether you are an expert or developing your paddling skills.

The Zone EXP seating system provides an expedition level of outfitting without compromising on comfort. The adjustable leg lifter support, padded thigh braces and a low profile backband are all ergonomically designed for all day comfort. A day hatch gives access to a separate bulkhead compartment so you can keep those bits you need while on the water in easy reach, while the large bow and stern stowage compartments offer the space required for multi-day trips. For those who want to leave the safety of the shore, a recess on the bow will allow you to mount a Silva 70P compass to keep you on the right course.

Deploy and fine tune the TruTrak skeg with Perception Kayaks' wire driven system to lock in the tracking and maintain a heading in winds and currents. If you prefer using your feet to assist your direction, then the optional Tip-Toes controlled rudder can be fitted for adjusting your course without breaking stroke. A rudder enables you to set your course accounting for wind and chop without edging or having to put more power in on one side to maintain your course even in very windy conditions. This can increase speed and reduce fatigue.
